Chris and Kuralay say ‘I do’!

I had the privilege of marrying Chris and Kuraly a few weeks ago. When I first met with this couple I discovered Kuralay was from the former Soviet Union. She overcame great odds to come to America and make a better life for her and her daughter. In addition she met Chris and they fell in love! It was an emotional day but in such a good way. Chris is the perfect fit for Kuralay and I pray God’s richest blessings on their new family!10295285_275611082618644_952356945584529775_o 905850_275611079285311_6755848440236698900_oKHP_7331KHP_7357KHP_7364

Wow! It’s been a while because my personal life has been a little crazy! However I did manage to participate in Houston Bride Magazine’s Bridal Show at the Galleria Omni in March. It was over the top! So beautiful!  The florals, the cakes, the french macaroons, the gowns!  There is only one way to describe it and that is with photos!

If you are planning a wedding or have recently become engaged, I would love to help you design and create a custom ceremony for your special day!

I love my silver service set with faux pearls set against a black background, simple sophistication.

Aren’t these mother of the Bride/Groom Dresses fabulous?

I loved the colors, bright pops all over the big ballroom.

So many tasty sweets! My favorite of course is french macaroons by Macarons by Patisse

It smelled so great with all these florals!

The design team did a great job on pulling this uptown look together.

Have you ever seen anything so tiny and adorable as Miss Ebony? She works at the magazine and she is not only beautiful but she has brains as well! My nickname for her is brains and beauty—it’s true!

They gave me such a perfect corner in the ballroom, table number 1, I was the gatekeeper!

Dedication and Baptism

While ‘Going to the Chaplain’ is primarily a clergy wedding service, as an ordained chaplain I can perform weddings, baptisms, and even funerals and memorials. Yesterday I had the joy of dedicating my friend Kate’s 2 children, Wyatt and Zaina and baptizing Kate’s brother Jeff. Kate’s husband Jason and Kate’s parents rounded out the morning. We did it at my home and what a blessing to be entrusted with something so special. Enjoy the photos of this precious time with this amazing family.

Blessings,

Chaplain Tara

He looked a little concerned, but he did great!

Zaina, Jason, Kate and Wyatt…what a beautiful family!

This is the sweetest young man. I had the spa heated up, and even though it was 35 degrees outside, the water was nice and toasty!

Sweet Sandy and Will tie the knot!

I have so enjoyed the journey with this sweet couple! Sandy is an elementary school teacher and she married the love of her life today in the Woodlands! Will and Sandy’s wedding was on the veranda of the beautiful Market Street Hyatt in The Woodlands. Sandy looked stunning in her gown and her family came all the way from New York State to witness her special day.

Her darling grandmother Rose was able to come and even enjoyed a massage yesterday with the girls! She loved it! I think Will and Sandy will have a whole village of people from their precious families to help guide them along the way of this journey they began today. Enjoy these photos of a most special bride and groom!

All she had left to do was get the dress on, then it was time to walk the aisle!

Will waited with me for his darling Sandy to make her walk down the aisle, he did great!

Sandy’s mom Jackie brought her mother (Sandy’s grandmother) all the way from New York State….what a darling precious lady and Sandy was the last grand child to get married, she was not going to miss it!

Everything was ‘fall’ inspired….the dessert table was amazing…I can’t wait to see the professional pictures!

Chris and Alicia Tie the Knot!

I am sorry it has been so long since I posted! I have 3 sons and all three of their wives are pregnant! It has been a fruitful and busy year for the Dorroh family!

Late this past summer I had the joy of marrying one of the first firefighters I got to know when I was chaplain at the fire department over 5 years ago. Chris ended up in south Texas all the way from Germany! He did not know how to speak English when he arrived years ago, but he sure does now.

Chris met his bride Alicia where else but the fire department! Alicia is a firefighter in her own right and together they are adorable. I so enjoyed spending time with them in the months before the ceremony and really hearing their heart for one another and the family they want to create. Chris’s best man was his fire chief and Alicia’s maid of honor was the fire chief’s wife, how cute is that?? I love these two people and know they have started a journey that will inspire each other and those they help. I love the photo of them on the fire truck. The couple that puts out fires together, stays together!!! Blessings on them and their future!

Questions Your Wedding Officiant Should be asking YOU!

Questions your wedding officiant should be asking YOU…

Most couples would probably want to know what questions they need to ask the pastor/minister/clergy/chaplain when they meet or speak with them the first time.
I am aware that some clergy may see this as a job and perhaps never even see the couple before the wedding. Perhaps the minister just needs the names of the bride and groom  because they perform a basic ceremony with a mini sermon tucked in the middle on marriage.
However, a thoughtful minister will really seek to know the couple and meet them way before they get to the altar. If the couple attends church and their pastor will perform the ceremony, many times the couple is required to go through some sort of premarital counseling which is a great way for the clergy to get to know the couple.
But what if you don’t have a church home? What if you hire a minister by personal referral or from a wedding website the minister advertises on?
You can tell when you meet or speak with the minister what kind of input he/she will have in your life by what questions they ask you!
Any minister worth their salt will ask:
1) How did you 2 meet?
2) What made you fall in love with each other?
3) Tell me about what kind of home you each grew up in ( this should give the minister some insight into what behaviors will compliment each other and what could cause conflict, which is helpful!)
4) What kind of ceremony does the couple want?
5) Is the couple on the same page about having children?
6) Where is the couple spiritually and are they able to respect each others views or come together in this area?
7)  Give the couple some basic communication skills and give them a book as a gift on marriage communication.
8)  Who is the spender, who is the saver in the area of finances?
9) And for heavens sake a basic talk about the physical relationship! A man needs to know, to the degree he is attentive to her in the kitchen (all other areas of life), is the degree she is attentive to him in the bedroom! These are things their mother may not tell them but a responsible minister should not be afraid ‘to go there’!!!
10) Do you have any ‘fears’ or ‘hesitations’ about getting married? It is better to talk about them openly. Most fears can be squelched when you bring them out in the open. Good communication includes talking about things we would rather not talk about!
11) Finally, the minister should pray with the couple before the wedding and commit to them to pray for them all the way to the wedding day.
A minister should take the couple under their spiritual wing and carry them from the first meeting until they take flight as a married couple at the altar.
Here’s hoping the clergy you choose will make you feel comfortable and secure and offer themselves as a spiritual mentor for the most important time in your life!
Bless You,
Chaplain Tara

Questions to Ponder Before the Big Day

1. I love this person but do I like this person?

I know you think you wouldn’t be getting married if you didn’t LOVE the person you are to wed, but can you say you actually ‘like’ them and enjoy hanging around them? Do you enjoy the same activities and have some similar interests? Friendship needs to be involved in the foundation of your love for your spouse to be. So love them AND like them!

2. Is physical attraction the only thing that draws you to them?

Looks will change, especially after many long years of marriage. I have been married 35 years and my husband and I look completely different than we did when we met! Important to think about! Make sure the outward appearance that you are drawn to is only a reflection of what draws you to them on the inside.

3. Can I see this person as a co-parent of my children?

Your children will look like you and your spouse, but they will also behave like them as well. Can you visualize that and does that give you peace? Very important…

4. Am I comfortable being myself with this person?

It is exhausting to try to be someone you are not. If you change who you are so they will be happier, you are sacrificing your own emotional health. That does not mean we don’t all have areas we need to change for the better, but you get my point.

5. Will this person be a person of faith and encouragement when I can’t believe for myself?

There will be times when each of you will have to be the others prayer warrior and biggest cheerleader. That is what marriage is all about! If you are the one that always has to ‘be there’ for the other person and they never reciprocate, think twice. You can do that for a few years, but over the long haul you cannot give without receiving or you will crash and burn.

6. What do those that know you best think of the other person?

Many times love is blind and we cannot see faults in the other person that others can. Everyone has a best friend or a parent or sibling that will tell you the truth. Better to know now than after the ‘I do’s’, don’t be afraid to ask!

7. Can I promise to hang in there with this person no matter what?

We are accustomed to a microwave world. I will do this and if I don’t like it or it gets too hard I will quit. You cannot go into marriage with that mind set. Your marriage partner will bring you the most joy AND the most pain (I am not talking about physical abuse or psychological abuse, that is something that needs intervention and counseling ASAP). Any couple whose marriage last for the long run will tell you that it is a combination of love, joy, hurt, forgiveness, patience, staying when you want to go, and doing the right thing when you want to do the wrong thing. It takes work! But years down the road you can say, this has been so worth it!

I hope that you will consider these questions as you approach your engagement/wedding day, so you can have the fairy tale ending……..And they lived happily ever after!

Dream Weddings Bridal Show

Yesterday I attended my first Bridal Show as a vendor! Of course it is major eye candy as you walk through the aisles and see all the florals, cakes and event planner booths, but I felt so blessed to have my good friend Denise Bass (who BTW is planning her daughters wedding for later this year) help me at my booth.

Lot’s of people and many soon to be brides taking it all in. I met 8-10 brides that do not have a minister to do their wedding. They took my info and said they would get back with me, so I am praying they will all need me for their special day! Below are a few pictures from the event….all in all a very good day!

Sorry for the quality of the pictures, it was so busy and I am definitely NOT a photographer!!
