A Firefighter Wedding!!

Well those of you who know me know what a special place in my heart I have for firefighters.  Last month I had the joy of officiating for one of the young men I knew from my days as a First Responder Chaplain at the Fire Department. I knew David when he was still in High School! He was always a nice kid, but to see him now as a young man with the most adorable bride was such a big deal to me!

Erin has the heart of a mommy and David is a devoted civil servant who loves what he does. I loved working with this couple and am excited knowing I can always stay in touch because of the history I have with him and the fire department. Good things are coming to this sweet couple! Enjoy some of their wedding day photos.

Kelly and Josh at the Altar!

This is really such a cute couple and both have such fun families! Kelly reminds me of Ali Wentworth! The actress/comedian who is married to George Stephanopoulos!! It was so surreal, I told her mother every time I talk to Kelly I feel like I am talking to Ali!

Kelly and Josh are honestly two of the sweetest people I have ever met. They both describe each other as honest and I think that says a lot about the foundation they begin their new life with. I have the highest confidence that this sweet couple will make it over the long haul. Here are a few peeks at their wedding day.

Everyone had to wait in one room before we walked to the altar. Here you can see they made the groom face the wall so he couldn’t see his bride!

Lauren and David meet me at the altar!

Last weekend I had the pleasure of performing the wedding of the cutest couple, Lauren and David. They were so adorable from the time they sat down with me at my kitchen table all the way through to the wedding day.

I smile when I think they ‘giggled’ all the way through the ceremony! I told Lauren laughter will carry you into a long life and marriage. I can see that David adores this woman and she shines with inner confidence under his love and care.

I have no doubt that this new family will grow and flourish in the years ahead. Here are a few of my photos…Mine pale in comparison to the photographers (Photography by Niki) photos, hopefully I can purchase and add when they are ready!

Enjoy their day with them!

Bless you,

Chaplain Tara

Florist and Flowers

by Brittni Walker
http://www.ionasflowers.com

Being a Florist has been such a blessing to me. I get to meet so many people from all walks of life. I not only get to exercise my creativity, I also get to bring joy to the ones who are going through a hard time or going through a time of excitement. Flowers represent happiness and providing that happiness on somones wedding day is the best feeling a Florist can experience. At least that is how I feel about it. My name is Brittni Walker and I am the Manager and Lead Floral Designer for Iona’s Flower Market in Rosemary Beach, Florida. Rosemary and the towns surrounding provide the right ambiance for the perfect beach destination wedding and you don’t even have to leave the country.

Having a shop in one of the top wedding spots, I have had a lot of experience when it comes to “ The Wedding Flower Shenanigans” and what you need to know as a Bride to make the right decision on finding the right florist for you and your wedding. I will also provide information you would need to help the process and make it a little less complicated.

1) Research:
Take your time and find the right florist for you! Do some research on their location and what kind of work they do. When you have chosen, get to know them a little bit. The more we get to know you the easier it is for us to help out when it comes to the right flower decision. Also, it brings trust to you and lets you know that your florist is committed.

2) Location, location, location:
Try to pick a florist who is close to your venue. The benefit from picking someone close is, though not intended, if anything were to go wrong or you need back-up they can be right there to fix whatever floral issue you may have.

3) Choosing your perfect flowers:
A lot of brides have their flowers picked out way before they are even engaged. Dreaming that you will have those beautiful, luscious, pink peonies in December might not happen since their peek season is in spring. Keep in mind that all flowers are seasonal. Always do your research on which flower correlates with what season. If you aren’t sure always feel free to call or email your florist with any questions you have.

4) Pictures, pictures and more pictures!
Provide as many pictures, ideas, Pinterest boards, etc. of what you have in mind for your big day. Know that you can never provide too much of that kind of stuff. It helps us see the same vision you have. Also, it helps us get to know you a little better and what your expectations are.

5) Budget.
It’s always the elephant in the room when a bride comes in for a consultation. Know that there is no way around it, it has to come out sometime and rather sooner than later. Florists understand and deal with budgets on a daily basis. You do not need to be afraid or embarrassed when providing a price point. It is very important to let your florist know your budget so they know what they can work with. We are here for you and to make your wedding day magnificent with any budget. Also, be prepared if there is a payment plan in action. All different florists vary when it comes to deposits. Just plan to be ready and aware.

6) The wedding party:
It is very easy to accidently leave someone out (un-intentionally, of course), especially if your wedding party is a big one. Before you meet with your florist write down a list of everyone in the party and their roles in your wedding. This will be vital information during your consultation and also makes make the price quote process run smoother for your florist.

7) Candelabras, Unity Candles, Etc.
If you would like flowers for any of these items, please let us know. These are the most forgotten when it comes to wedding flowers. Just make a note of it.

8) The Wedding and Reception:
Letting your florist know the following during your consultation saves a lot of time and emails.
• The time, date and location of the wedding and reception.
• How many People there are in your wedding party
• How many people attending your reception
• How many tables and if there are any extra tables such as sign in table, food table, picture table, etc. at your reception

9) The questionnaire:
Most Florists have a questionnaire for all of their brides to fill out that will pretty much cover everything I just told you. Just be prepared to have the knowledge of everything that we covered and it won’t be as intimidating as it looks. We do understand that some of you are just coming in to get an idea and you don’t have location, colors, or bridesmaids pick out yet. That is okay, no worries. Just fill out as much information that you can provide.

10) Communication:
I cannot stress enough on how important communication is between the bride and her florist. Please do not hesitate or be afraid to ask questions. Tell your florist if you don’t like something, or even if you want to change your mind (in a timely manner of course). Once you have signed that contract, the flowers are ordered and that down payment is made you are locked in on what flowers you chose, so please be vocal. Remember, we are here for you and want to make your day the day that you dreamt of!

I hope these little pointers help you out when the time comes for you to choose your florist and flowers for your wedding. I know weddings can be stressful but with the right florist and the proper communication. I believe that it can be pulled off without a hitch. Congratulations!

Chris and Kuralay say ‘I do’!

I had the privilege of marrying Chris and Kuraly a few weeks ago. When I first met with this couple I discovered Kuralay was from the former Soviet Union. She overcame great odds to come to America and make a better life for her and her daughter. In addition she met Chris and they fell in love! It was an emotional day but in such a good way. Chris is the perfect fit for Kuralay and I pray God’s richest blessings on their new family!10295285_275611082618644_952356945584529775_o 905850_275611079285311_6755848440236698900_oKHP_7331KHP_7357KHP_7364

Dedication and Baptism

While ‘Going to the Chaplain’ is primarily a clergy wedding service, as an ordained chaplain I can perform weddings, baptisms, and even funerals and memorials. Yesterday I had the joy of dedicating my friend Kate’s 2 children, Wyatt and Zaina and baptizing Kate’s brother Jeff. Kate’s husband Jason and Kate’s parents rounded out the morning. We did it at my home and what a blessing to be entrusted with something so special. Enjoy the photos of this precious time with this amazing family.

Blessings,

Chaplain Tara

Sweet Sandy and Will tie the knot!

I have so enjoyed the journey with this sweet couple! Sandy is an elementary school teacher and she married the love of her life today in the Woodlands! Will and Sandy’s wedding was on the veranda of the beautiful Market Street Hyatt in The Woodlands. Sandy looked stunning in her gown and her family came all the way from New York State to witness her special day.

Her darling grandmother Rose was able to come and even enjoyed a massage yesterday with the girls! She loved it! I think Will and Sandy will have a whole village of people from their precious families to help guide them along the way of this journey they began today. Enjoy these photos of a most special bride and groom!

All she had left to do was get the dress on, then it was time to walk the aisle!

Will waited with me for his darling Sandy to make her walk down the aisle, he did great!

Sandy’s mom Jackie brought her mother (Sandy’s grandmother) all the way from New York State….what a darling precious lady and Sandy was the last grand child to get married, she was not going to miss it!

Everything was ‘fall’ inspired….the dessert table was amazing…I can’t wait to see the professional pictures!

Chris and Alicia Tie the Knot!

I am sorry it has been so long since I posted! I have 3 sons and all three of their wives are pregnant! It has been a fruitful and busy year for the Dorroh family!

Late this past summer I had the joy of marrying one of the first firefighters I got to know when I was chaplain at the fire department over 5 years ago. Chris ended up in south Texas all the way from Germany! He did not know how to speak English when he arrived years ago, but he sure does now.

Chris met his bride Alicia where else but the fire department! Alicia is a firefighter in her own right and together they are adorable. I so enjoyed spending time with them in the months before the ceremony and really hearing their heart for one another and the family they want to create. Chris’s best man was his fire chief and Alicia’s maid of honor was the fire chief’s wife, how cute is that?? I love these two people and know they have started a journey that will inspire each other and those they help. I love the photo of them on the fire truck. The couple that puts out fires together, stays together!!! Blessings on them and their future!
